Learning from driver - Is this a thing?

Asked by dkohanski Jun 24, 2019 at 11:39 AM about the 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, just bought a 2015 Outback and have a mechanic telling me that there is
an internal engine computer he would be able to reset using a "Subaru
computer" that essentially helps the car learn from the driver. They'd like to
charge $100 to reset it. They say that with a new driver this can improve
performance.

Is this a real thing? I'm finding very little about it if anything online, is there
anything that would match this description?

It is true that the ECU will learn your driving style. I would not pay the $100 though.
