Question type: General

MY 1999 gmc yukon will not start at all. Thought it was my fuel filter because it would
jerk a little upon acceleration from a complete stop and but now that it wont start at all
I'm guessing it is not the filter. I was thinking that it was the pump because it wont
start at all, but I Tried starting it again today and it made a pop noise and smoke came
from under the hood. I looked in and couldn't locate exactly where the smoke was
coming from. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sounds like a fuel pump but first try spraying some starting fluid into the intake hose. If it fires momentarily then it no fuel, most likely the pump, very common. If that makes no difference it will be an ignition problem most likely..

If it turns over but not starts check fuel relay, fuel pump & last but not least the crank timing sensor.
