Why is my tailgate getting more difficult to open?

Thanks, BoholMark - Hinges are well oiled. The problem is I have to pull really hard to get the tailgate to unlatch. The wife is not strong enough to unlatch it. My guess the "unlatch rods"(?) have become worn and no longer fully unlatch the side catches. ???

Is there anyway you can lubricate them? My guess is that you have tried that. How hard would it be to replace it?
