Could filter change fix my tranny

2002 GMC ENVOY... Gears systematically
acted like in neutral. Started by not wanting
to go into 3rd stopped checked fluid level
tryed again wouldn't leave 1st after towing
home I went to correct how it was parked
had good string reverse went into 1st moved
forward when trying to reverse again nothing
same in 1st everything felt like neutral.
Could changeing filter and fluid fix this or
does it sound more like a pump issue and if
so how difficult is it to change pump in
transmission? Is it exterior part or would
need tranny dropped? Thanks

IT COULD, IF THE FLUID IS VERY OLD IT NAY NOT ALLOW THE TRANNY THE SHIFT SUCH AS YOURS.
