When you buy a vehicle from a Dealer they will issue you a temporary license plate. You must show proof of insurance to get the temporary license plate. This also serves as your temporary registration as well. For example, when I bought my 94 Fleetwood I bought it from a Dealer in North Carolina. When I picked up the car I was issued a "North Carolina Transport" license plate that allowed me to drive the car home to New Jersey. Hope that helps! Jim
