As I entered off the interstate the car made a
whistle and would not accelerate. It is a 2014 TDI
with 80,000 miles. Car will start and idols fine but
will not go over 39mph and now check engine light
is on.

the check engine light indicate a fault on the engine and this are the things to check on this kind of situation. *catalyst sensor: when it faulty it might be disturbing brain box capacity and it will be doing that when it hot *throttle actuator: when the spring do not return it will make the car not to accelerate *brainbox: can also make it not to accelerate if it faulty *throttle pedal: if it faulty it might also cus it and try to diagonise the car when it do not accelerate so you can get exact fault.
