Alternator issues

So, I have a 2002 ford expedition Eddie Bauer. My
mechanic said my alternator went out and he could
get one from ebay really cheap.
I asked him to send me a picture of it and it was
pretty rusty, which is something I DO NOT WANT
TO PAY $85. FOR AND PUT IN MY TRUCK, ST
ALL!!!
so I get the picture and it says it's not alternator for
a (ford F-150  '97-2002)
I told him that that is not for my truck and was told
it would still it... I want to know if it's true or
not...because  I feel like he is using my money to
get parts for another vehicle and maybe possibly
even taking parts outta my truck to use on other
vehicles...please help me . Thank you very much

You have a used, probably rusty one now, why get another one? Also, do you want a 150 truck part or an Expedition part? They may well be the same but buying from a parts house is for sure. You can get Alternators from several parts houses with lifetime guarantee for around $150.00. This may be over your budget driving a 14 year old car but if you intend to keep it for a while longer, consider it an investment. One last item, did you get it tested with an ODB-II meter or quality electrical system tester? I have seen people replace half of their electrical system when the problem would have cost much less to test and fix right the first time. And lastly, if you don't trust your mechanic, find one you can trust.
