Lancer 2014 knocking in front

Asked by NMDriver Jul 24, 2019 at 02:36 PM about the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When driving I hear this knocking sound from the front
when the car is rolling. When the car is stopped and revving
the engine no noise. It only happens when the car is rolling
and gets faster the faster I go. When applying the break the
sound goes away. I visually looked at the wheel well and
the engine bay and all belts seem to be in place. I pushed
on the break to see if something might be loose but
everything seems okay. I am planning on looking deeper
into the car for the issue at the suspension and maybe even
the CV joint to see if something might be wrapped around.
Last time I was driving it I started noticing a small 'burning'
smell due to friction (when I noticed the smell I was limping
the car home not driving over 25 mph.) Any ideas on what
other things I could look at if I dont find the problem? The
main thing I noticed is when the wheels are spinning faster
the knocking or clicking gets faster as well. Thanks in
advance.

I suggest you check the wheel bearings and inspect the front suspension.
