Question type: General

I'm trying to figure out how long a 2014 Buick Encore Convenience AWD will
last? I'm thinking about buying one but it has a little over 100k miles on it. I'm
worried because cars normally have problems that start happening at that
mileage. Is it wise to buy this car and how long should it last with regular
maintenance?

Cars can last a long time but it depends on how well they were maintained. It could last a long time with repairs and maintenance but then again it might not. How long do you need to drive it and how many miles a year do you drive?

Thanks for the answer! I'd want to drive it for the next five years as a minimum. I tend to drive around 5000 miles a year or more (no more then 6500 miles a year) between commuting to work and taking small road trips to the coast.

You will put between 25,000 and 32,500 miles on it in that time period. You might be OK with a 100.000 mile car as long as it was good to begin with. Have a mechanic check it out before buying.

I had a 2013 Buick Encore that I used for work. I traded it in after 6 years with 147,000 miles and it still ran like new! No msg or problem ever! Loved it! Replaced with with a 2019. Could not tell the difference in the drive of my 6 year old Encore and my brand new one with 4 miles on it!

My 2014 Encore has 132,000 miles on it. It is falling apart. I’m currently waiting on parts to arrive so they can do a $1,200 repair on the exhaust system. The dealership tried to borrow parts from two other dealership in the area, but both places refused because they needed the same parts for their customers this week. Why do so many Encores need the same exhaust system repair? I was told the part I need is only $40, but THAT part is unavailable from the manufacturer so they have to replace the entire exhaust system. I’m NOT a happy owner of an Encore.

My 2013 Encore started to show its failings at about 35K miles. The A/C system wouldn't work when the car sat in the sun too long. Remote starter went at 42K. At 85K and after a new catalytic converter, engine gasket, fuel injector, 02 sensors and multiple failings at the State's Air Quality testing station, it was time to unload it. Before I traded it in, my mechanic found a pinhole leak in the radiator system and told me to get a new car before one more problem reared its ugly head. NEVER again will I buy a Buick.

My 2014 Encore has 87,000 and I just put $4,500 in it last week because the engine literally collapsed. I was guaranteed this would fix the problem. The engine light is on again and they want another $2,000 to put on a catalytic converter. Not gonna do it. I take good care of my cars and get my oil changed every 3,000 miles even though I don't have to do it that often.

Hello All ! I’m an on the road salesperson here in Maine and average roughly 30,000 + miles a year in my 2013 Encore. Grant it, that when I purchased this car it had 103,000 miles - but the previous owner was also an on the road sales person .... but the initial 103K miles didn’t deter me as they were mostly highway miles However, I have at 150K miles needed to replace some original equipment - but that shouldn’t be a surprise for any vehicle The key to the Encore and any vehicle is never skimp on maintenance. When I purchased this car, I immediately switched to 100% synthetic oil and add a fuel treatment - Sea Foam - every two months or so. Then when the car turned 200,000 miles - I add an Oil Stabilizer - Lucas Oil Stabilizer - at every full synthetic oil change = every 5,000 miles In conclusion, the Encore is paid off, I’m currently at 207,726 miles; with the above maintenance schedule and understanding there will be occasional but anticipated / natural oem replacements .... I will be running her for many years to come. PS - Yesterday at 93 degrees, I had to drive down and back to Massachusetts in my Encore. When I returned home that evening and with air conditioning on full bore - this little car covered 515 miles! Keep your Encore or any other vehicle happy and it will run for a long long time

Regarding A/C on my 2013 - I too was having initial problems - but resolved the issue with an $8.00 part replacement!! The filter for the A/C is behind the glovebox and if not changed every 2 to 3 years can block a/c air flow. $8.00 and my ac is like brand new!

sitting at the dealership right now waiting on a $4500 repair - 2014 w 83K miles and have done all the maintenance here at the dealer, I'd say before this maybe we've spent another 4-5K total over 8 years. Its the only car tho so not much choice, but next year will be looking at a Tesla since they have zero to no maintenance other than tires, and 20K fewer moving parts. More $$ up front tho.
