Check engine light is on, car shaking when pressing the gas.

Asked by katelyns9764 Feb 17, 2015 at 07:20 AM about the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class CLA 250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Mercedes Benz CLA. I live in Kentucky and we just got hammered with about 12 inches of snow. I got in my car this morning to drive to work and noticed my check engine light is on. When I pushed the gas pedal it felt like the back end of the car was shaking but would stop if I let off the gas. Also the widows began fogging up no matter what I did to the defrost settings. It is around -2 degrees here right now, could the low temps be causing this or is it something more serious?

Sounds like you got moisture on some electrical devices .. the "shaking" is most likely from misfiring ( not all plugs are sparking due to moisture) The cars computer senses that malfunction and it triggers an alarm. If you can keep it running it will most likely begin to run normally. A long term cure for those owning a 2014 Mercedes is to drive the car to Sanibel Island .. find a suitable location to observe the car for a period of no more then 4 months

While Florida is very nice this time of year, I would make an appoinment to get the car back to the dealer since it should still be under warranty. On a side note you may need to get an engine block heater installed, due to your subzero climate this may also cure the issues you are having.
