ford crown victoria refuses to charge

Asked by workingmom1234 May 03, 2016 at 12:00 PM about the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor

driving on the highway, I noticed that it suddenly stopped charging. voltage
drop.

thinking it's the alternator, I swapped it out. that's not it.
all the other system works, it's just the fact that alternator won't charge.
put it fresh charged battery, and it will still start and run.. for a while.

I hate to say it, but the new alternator could be bad right out of the box. If have a multimeter, set it to volts DC. with the engine running, you should have 13.5-14.5 volts. if not then the alternator doesn't work. if you don't have one, the auto parts store can test it. I have had this happen.
