Does runing out of oil mean a new engine for my 2014 Escape

Asked by skcassell513 Nov 18, 2016 at 07:22 AM about the 2014 Ford Escape SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Took my car to Ford dealer for oil change. Less then 2 miles down the road after the oil change, car died on expressway. Appears mechanic "forgot" to put in new oil. Technician came, put in oil, car still would not start. Dealer towed vehicle back for service and gave me a rental. Will I need a new engine? Is Dealer liable. Care is 2014 Escape with 28,000 miles

You bet the dealer is at fault and its possible you need a new engine. Make sure you document everything and if they get it started and it runs like crap. My next step would be to a good lawyer..

How can you forget the oil drain plug? Not that hard to remember

I would demand an entire new engine, not a used one or a short block but the complete engine including the heads. They KNOW they are at FAULT so hold their feet to the fire until they give in. I would also demand an extended warranty at their cost.

Just a comment on Jim's comment above. Once you see the oil light and hear noises it is already too late. The damage is done.
