2000 Dodge Dakota sport 2.5L 4cylinder 5 speed truck.

Asked by Dakotagirl80 Sep 14, 2016 at 10:43 PM about the 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T Sport RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I blew the head on my 2000 Dodge
Dakota. I found a 98 Dodge Dakota sport
2.5L  4cylinder  to swap out with. I'm not
sure since it's an extended cab  where
mine isn't. Does anyone know if it will
work? Also a 5 speed.

Assuming the engines are the same size, it should. Check with a auto recycling yard (junkyard), they should be able to confirm it. They have cross-reference books. Of course, do a careful side-by-side comparison once you remove the old head. I once replaced the rear leaf springs on a 1965 Mustang with ones from a 1973, because all Mustangs from 1964 to 1973 used essentially the same springs, according to the cross-reference book.
