Can 3.8 engine be replaced with 4.3.or 5.0 engine?

I have a 1987 Pontiac GP LE. My plan is to use it as a daily driver around town
but it offers very little power on the highway. My question is what is required
to replace the 3.8 engine with a 4.3 or 5.0 engine? I would love to do a LS swap
but no mechanics around Atlanta metro are interested in doing the job.

A small block Chevy engine was an option so yes this is possible. You could also build the 3.8 and get more power. The cost to do the conversion will be high and as you have found out no mechanic wants to take on such a PITA. Maybe you could find someone to do in on their slow season (winter maybe). It will be expensive and slow so buy another car and be prepared to wait and wait and pay and pay. I would sell yours and buy a V8 car instead.
