Rear axle ring gear size on 1989 ranger.

I am rebuilding a 1989 ford ranger
2.3L 140cid 4cyl 5spd manual
transmition rwd reg cab long bed. I'm
trying to find out what size the rear
axle is. I need to find out if the rear
end is locking or non & if it is the 7.5"
or the 8.8"? Can anyone help?

There is a metal tag on the rear cover bolt. remove that and use a wire wheel to clean it, then get your door sticker info, your vin, and goto Ford parts counter. You will see what it says. It leads your parts guy to a list of what was put in yours. Since yours is a nothin. expect lighter smaller simpler parts. But, you still need the tag, Or you have to make your own parts out of old FMX's
