has to be at the bottom of the oil sump (a forged pan shape with a drain-hole at the bottom) someone has to undo these bolts think they're about 12 of them 7/16 (as I recall) drain the oil, pull off the pan (an electric drill makes short work of it) clean the screen and put the new gasket only on the pan side (after having scraped ALL the old one off)~torque around 14-18 pounds~ {star pattern}~

suckin' air? be sure there is enough oil in there in the first place~...achem...the motor and transmission mounts are probably not holding the drive train down, take a mechanics prybar to see if they separate easily~ This should smooth out the drivetrain~

well mr1925, the oil pump is sucking air....or the gauge acts up whenever 4wd is selected....any change in performance?...buy a mechanical oil guage what will not lie to you~ https://www.google.com/#q=mechanical+oil+gauge&source=lnms&tb m=shop&sa=X&ei=jhuxUZTCBsXLyQHVpYHQDA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoA w&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47534661,d.aWc&fp=882ade51959b 0806&biw=1280&bih=653

...well, a mechanical pressure gauge will not lie...I'll say that....but still grounding on your dash panel maybe we could look at? test various connections to ground with a multimeter?...there are many choices for mechanical ones that go with your dashboard~....just an idea~....if the car ain't a knockin...don't come a lookin'...I guess.~

Change the oil pressure sending unit. They're a known problem. Install a gauge and watch it perform. What you suggest is an uncommon problem an A LOT of work. Check it out first and make sure that there's a problem with the pump/pickup. $10 for a sender.
