Why doesn't temp. guage work?

Temp. gauge does not work put new sending unit in , still not working. Ran test light from ground to sending unit wire Test light goes on and off and gauge goes to hot, any solutions?

it could be an air bubble in the line. An air pocket could be in the heater area or at the sensor unit. Had a radiator coolant flush & refill done recently?
