Electrical issue?

Asked by Andrea Jan 18, 2017 at 07:49 PM about the 1982 Ford F-250 STD Standard Cab 4WD LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband owns a Ford (1982 F250 I think) Diesel truck.  It was running,
then one day it won't start and no lights. It has battery power, he hot wired it
and it runs fine and everything works for a couple minutes, then all the lights
go out, but the truck is still running.

An old diesel doesn't need a lot of power to operate. After the lights go out, I guess it won't crank right? Should check the alternator and the battery voltage.
