1989 Ford F-150

Asked by Connor2012 Apr 25, 2017 at 10:35 PM about the 1989 Ford F-150 XL Standard Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I put a new starter in a 1989 F150 and now
it just humms loudly when I turn the key,
but doesn't start. Did I put the starter in
wrong?

That sounds like the solenoid is not operating properly. Rebuilt starters are often times junk especially if you bought it at a store like Pep Boys. I would remove it and test it.

First check the cable between starter and positive post second check the the small connector on solenoid .then make sure about battery cable connection .
