Can't get truck to start

Asked by Guru5CG68 Jan 13, 2018 at 10:04 AM about the 1986 Ford F-150 XL Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son's 86 f150 302ci pickup timing chain went
out, replaced chain, now truck want start. Dots on
cam gear and crank gear are lined up, pulled
distributer checked gear and pin, checked fuel
pressure, ( new pumps in tank, and new fuel filters,
) pressure is good. But want start. Sometimes it
back fires. Reset timing. Harmonic balancer on tdc,
set distributer on #1, and twisted distributor back
and forth while cranking over still nothing. I've
turned wrenches for lots of years built many of
Ford motors, 390ci built to the hilt, 351ci, & a 302ci
built to the hilt, and many other misc. Car repairs
over the yrs. I'm not completely incompetent, but
this one has me stumped. Hmm

Did you disconnect the "spout" connector when trying to set the timing? Do a Google search for your vehicle information and "spout" connector.
