Help?

Asked by Kendal Aug 23, 2016 at 04:39 PM about the 1988 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 GM Sierra 1500. The battery gauge
would drop down to 9 and start to sputter like it
wanted to shut off but would keep running, I would
tap under the steering column and the battery
would jump to 14 and be fine for a few. At night
when I would have the head lights on they would
dim and then brighten again (along with the battery
gauge dropping and rising) but now none of the
gauges work and even tapping under the steering
column won't help.

first easy thing to do is spray some wd-40 into the steering column and tilt area / turn signal switch/key everywhere...put a towel under it if you zap/spray it well and work wheel / tilt it up and down...then get back to us...........

WD-40? You need to find and replace the defective part. It may be the electrical part of the ignition switch.

Update: I went into the store today and it was running when I went in and when I came out it was dead and I needed to get a jump from someone. Then on my way out of the parking lot it died again and I had to get another jump.
