You need an electric brake controller. It is mounted on the dashboard of the tow vehicle and is calibrated to engage the trailer brakes when you put your foot on the pedal. You need to get that installed properly by a shop that specializes in hitches and other trailer towing accessories. If your vehicle does not already have one, have a heavy duty transmission cooler installed at the same time. It will save you a world of hurt down the road.
