faulty abs sensor is my guess. Like all things electronic, they can go bad or get damaged / loose / etc. Get a pro to look at it for you. Maybe a just a new sensor or could be a bigger issue
you will need to have it scanned with an OBD II scan tool that is capable of reading ABS codes. That is the only way to know where to start looking for the problem. It may not even be related to the ABS system at all. With a Subaru, almost anytime the engine light comes on it will disable the cruise control and or the ABS system. Most Auto Parts stores will scan for codes for free hoping to sell you a part to repair it.
