Can I trade in current car if value higher that car i want

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

My Subaru Forrester is  $23,000. I want a Toyota FJ
cruiser that is listed at $18,000. How do I make a
trade in work.

Sell it yourself and then buy the Toyota. I bet you owe money on the Forester anyway.

That's all baloney! A reputable dealer will at least offer you a "rough wholesale" against an auto they're retailing...and pay the delta as necessary. This is of course may be predicated upon whether they WANT your vehicle to resell it. If it's off-brand the odds are less, of course.
