A/C compressor (I think) is making a clunking noise

Hi everyone! I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport, 2.4L, 2WD. The A/C compressor is making a intermittent clunking noise. Air is blowing ice cold as usual but compressor is making a intermittent clunking sound. Has 49,000 miles and of course the warranty is up... looking for any help or insight into this. I’ve been working on cars my whole life but never had any A/C issues until now and I live in Florida so A/C is as important as breathing down here. Clutch seems to be operating normally and there is no unusual wear and tear on the serpentine belt. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks!!
