2013 VW Beetle Convertible top motor failure

Asked by mietekk Mar 19, 2018 at 08:57 AM about the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Top opens only a bit and does not go any further. I was told that one of the
motors failed and that it is required in this situation to replace BOTH motors
even though the second motor works fine. Is it true? It does not have much
sense to me. What could happen if I replace just the failed motor?
PS of course extended warranty company does not want to pay for the
second motor.

I guess the idea is that if one motor failed the other will go soon. But no, you do not have to replace both motors, specially if the extended warranty won't pay for the second motor. Just be aware that the other motor can fail too.
