Have an 86 Golf cabro. starts but will not remain running. runs about 3-5 secs at idle. when you push accelerator down it stalls out.

checked fuel pump fuse, OK. appears to not be getting fuel.
cuts out after starting.

I'm no expert in this, but since yours is an older car, what first comes to mind is the fuel filter. (a relatively easy replacement). A question you may want to answer is: Is this a problem that suddenly happened, or did it gradually go from working, to bad, to worse? Also, will it remain idling if you DON'T press the accelerator? Another thing you might want to check is the fuel pressure, or warm-up, regulator.

Replaced the fuel filter last month. Seems to be moisture related. Not raining today and she started. Thanks

Replace the fuel pump relay. Costs $5.87 at Napa. Solved the (almost) exact same problem for me. But not before I caused 100s of $$ and months of work worth of damages.
