Speedometer and Tachometer

Asked by rogster Mar 03, 2010 at 10:09 AM about the 2003 Ford Focus ZX5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 ZX5 with a 2.0 liter Z-tec engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. Lately the
speedometer and tachometer have been working intermittently. I will start the car and they both
work. When I stop the car and restart it they don't work. All the other gauges work fine. It seems that
when the car sits for a while they work again. I have had it to my mechanic but he is stumped by this
problem. The car has 80,000 miles on it. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what is the
remedy?

the problem is most likely the guage cluster. turn the ignition to the on position and hold the button in the cluster untill u see text instead of numbers. it should run a test automatically. it should come up with a code so write it down and take it to the dealer
