I understand putting a ram 1500 ecu
into a dakota  is supposed increase
performance but unclear what years
are compatable

putting a ram ecu in your Dakota will not do anything for performance. the only way it will run is to put a computer for a v6 manual ram in there, and the parameters will be set the same as the Dakota ecu.

And btw the parameters would be set to compensate for the heavier ram body so yes there would be a difference

the engine tuning will be the same. you aren't going to get any performance benefit from putting a ram pcm in your Dakota. and for it to meet any emissions requirements, it needs to be the same year as the Dakota. you would do better with shorty headers and a low-restriction airbox. if you remove the block-off plate in the core support, cold air will be directed straight into the factory air cleaner.
