my 2003 ford escape fuel gauge is erratic

Asked by BRZ_1965 Feb 09, 2017 at 04:29 PM about the 2003 Ford Escape XLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It started just taking a day to reach full when I filled up.  It now is erratic all of the time.  A couple of days ago the low fuel light came on so I stopped to fill up and it only took 6 gallons.  Then it read full for a little while.

You probably need a new fuel level sender. The electrical connection might have corrosion on it.

The fuel gauge only shows what the fuel level sender tells it.
