Check engine light flashing

Asked by Fx2sport Feb 15, 2017 at 11:22 AM about the 2013 Ford F-150 FX2 SuperCrew

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes when I gun it my check engine light starts
flashing and then I let off and within a few seconds it
stops flashing. I just had the plugs and wires changed and
oil change.  It has 110,000 miles on it.  Engine had a
ticking noise in it and I noticed it while it was idling. Took it
to the mechanic and they said it was a quart and a half
low on oil and they said this was the problem. After the oil
change I only heard ticklng one time.  They said it was a
lifter not getting enough oil  and now it's fine. Told me
they did not find the code from the check engine light
flashing but I don't know if I believe them or not. I'm
beginning to think they just wanted to do the work  and
they knew that I would trade it in if I thought something
serious was wrong with it. Does anyone have an idea of
what's really wrong with my truck?

Sometimes a blinking check engine light that does not stay on indicates that the catalytic converter is starting to go and would need replacing. Another area to look at would be the EGR system, tubes and EGR get clogged and need cleaning out.
