Ford ranger shuts off

Why would my 2004 ford ranger shut off
completely while driving after I fill up with gas? Yo
get the vehicle to restart I have to take the fuel cap
off and press the fuel pump reset button.

I think your gas tank vent line is plugged up or kinked. Here is a diagram of the EVAP system --

The problem could also be with the charcoal canister.
