Over tighten valve cover bolts

I over tightened a bolt and it won't catch . Do I need
a new bolt or did I strip the female.

If bolt just spins then you probably did strip it, you can either retap the hole and move up a size for the bolt or you might be able to get by with something like helicoil on the stripped bolt.

The head is aluminum and the bolts are steel. Be careful as aluminum strips easily!
