Can you put a 5.2L Harmonic Balancer on a 5.9L V8 98 Dodge durango

Asked by Nikkers May 30, 2019 at 01:29 AM about the 1998 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My hood and vin say I have a 5.9L V8 engine in my 98 dodge Durango

The harmonic balancer broke so we took it off, but the part is a 5.2 harmonic balancer. Are the harmonic balancers interchangeable? Can I use a 5.2 on a 5.9? or is my engine actually a 5.2 instead?

RockAuto.com lists different part numbers for the harmonic balancer. All Magnum engines are stamped either 360 or 318 on the driver’s side near the rear of the block. The casting number found on all 360 Magnum blocks is 5302006, whereas the 5.2/318 Magnums are 53006714 or 53006657. Otherwise, the 5.2 and 5.9 appear pretty much identical.
