2013 Cadillac CTS -Emission problems, scan shows issues but no CEL light or error codes?

Asked by Ron Apr 26, 2019 at 01:17 PM about the 2013 Cadillac CTS Coupe 3.6L AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently had error code 0442 show up on my 2013 Cadillac CTS after running over my gas cap. The gas cap could still screw on, but had noticeable damage. I have replaced the gas cap and reset the computer, which has made my CEL turn off. However, emission-type problems are still showing up when the vehicle is scanned with an OBD tool.. is it possible that the computer is bringing up false readings? Nothing seems to be wrong with the car. Haven't seen any puddles, no smell of gas, etc.

You might have another leak somewhere in the evap system, maybe a bad vent or purge valve. if your scan doesn't lead you anywhere, you might need to go to a shop that can do a smoke test on the evap system to detect the leak. Also not impossible that you have a bad sensor. Look under the hood for any cracked or damaged hoses too.
