Cold Start

Asked by Marco Jan 14, 2017 at 02:36 PM about the 1999 Dodge Durango SLT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Durango keeps cutting off while I'm driving it.
Then I have to let it sit and cool down before it will
start again. Then, it will run fine until the engine
warms up and it will shut off again. It will only start
when the engine is cool. Check engine light doesn't
come on. Can anyone give me any suggestions for
what could be the problem?

I was thinking the ICM but I don't see one listed for your vehicle. I believe it is something electrical, the other thing that head would effect is the coil. The thing is you can get it tested but I think it would show good since it would be cool. I guess you could try that.

@Full_of_Regrets The engine is only warming up. It doesn't overheat. Although, the temperature gauge has risen to overheat level a couple of times, causing the "Check Gauges" light to come on. But, it will immediately go back to cool levels and the warning light goes off. But, this isn't happening when the vehicle dies. I wasn't sure if it was a related issue. That's why I didn't comment about it in my earlier post.
