99 Dodge Durango check engine light on, doesn't start sometimes

My Durangos check engine light will come on
sometimes and when it does amd I kill the engine,
it won't start up until the engine cools off. And
sometimes it won't stay started unless I keep my
foot on the gas pedal. Also when that happens,
black smoke comes put of the tailpipe. I'm baffled
and I need help please.

Have it read for codes, even if the check engine light is NOT on the computer will have stored information and codes. Discount auto stores will read codes for no fee. write them down.
