Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My daughter uses her car to commute from home to college weekly.  About
a two + hour trip each way.  Twice in the last month her car has suddenly
lost power.  The lights stay on but the car will not go above idle and and
when she pulls to the side of the road it dies and will not restart.  The first
time she had it towed to an independant garage where tested it, charged
the battery and could not find a problem.  The second time it happened it
was taken the the Dodge dealer at her college.  Diagnostics were run ,
battery charged and $70 later, no problem was found.  We've contacted the
Dodge customer board and they are trying to help.  But I want to know if
anyone has had a similar experience and what was done to fix it.  All help is
appreciated.

Here's an update. We took her car to the dealer where we bought it. They test drove the car and ran diagnostics again. No problem found. We picked the car up and she started back to school in it. Less than 10 miles down the road, the check engine light comes on and she can't get it to go past 3000 rpms. Back to the dealer again. Dodge customer service advises dealer to check the oil filter. What? Yes, the oil filter. It is a Wal Mart filter. Dealer changes oil and filter to a Mopar filter and Valvoline 5W-20. Test drives it for more than an hour and it does fine. Just cost me another $170. Shelby drove it back to school with no issues. Apparently there is some problem with Wal Mart filters building up pressure in the engine On the plus side Dodge is giving her three years of free oil and filter changes for the problems. Kudo's for good customer service.
