Wierd issue...

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

99% of the time the Durango runs fine. Occasionally it has the following issue.
1. The display shows 99mpg
2. The engine starts missing at 2750 rpm and will continue missing until I let off of the throttle to bring the rpm below 2750.

Sometimes when the issue is happening I can pull over, turn the car off and it starts back up running great. But sometimes when I pull over, turn the car off it does not want to start back up. When this happens and I finally get it started the issue is still there.
Has anyone seen this issue?

okay....this sounds like a classic MAIN grounding problem....off the battery the black battery terminal has a 1/0 cable that runs down to the chassis/ground...you must disassemble and wirebrush this lug and the spot where it goes to restore the 300 cold cranking amps potential and SOLID ground for the computer and auxiliary components~

Also load check your battery, check if you are getting over 14 volts from the alternator and clean the connections on the battery with wire brush and sanding paper. If you have not had a tune up for a long time then you should have one.

The engine cranks over fine. So ground is not the problem. Also when the Durango has the problem and is showing 99 mpg it will not shift into 1st even if I move the shift lever into 1st. If I do not touch the shift lever from a stop it stays in 3rd. I can manually put the shift lever into 2nd or 1st and it will shift to 2nd but not 1st. Help!

If your battery is going bad it can crank fine but you can get all kind of electrical gremlins so have it load tested and change it if it fails the test and make sure the connectors are clean.

ground strap to the transmission would fail to report the VSS correctly...and if electronically selected could stop the selector from workin' right too~

When it will not start I crank it over for 3 to 5 seconds every couple of minutes until it starts, usually after 30 to 45 minutes. The battery is under 1 year old, the terminals are clean, and even after cranking for 45 minutes is still cranking the engine over fast. I am sure the battery is not the problem. The trans mount is there and in good condition. Where would the trans ground strap be located? This is a 4x4 and the shifting is not electronic. I found these 3 error codes P0320 (M) No Crank Reference Signal at PCM No reference signal (Crankshaft position sensor) detected during engine cranking. P0320 (M) No RPM Signal to PCM (Crankshaft Position Sensor Signal to JTEC) A CKP signal has not been detected at the PCM. P0441 (M) Evap Purge Flow Monitor Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation. P0700 EATX Controller DTC Present This SBEC III or JTEC DTC indicates that the EATX or Aisin controller has an active fault and has illuminated the MIL via a CCD (EATX) or SCI (Aisin) message. The specific fault must be acquired from the EATX via CCD or from the Aisin via ISO-9141.
