Does a faulty drive belt effect the power steering? Power steering locked up last
night and the dealership is saying it's the drive belt

Yes. The serpentine drive belt provides power to the power steering, the A/C and the alternator. It's an easy fix and check the tensioner too.

Good guy mechanic, fixing a slipping serpentine belt is a lot cheaper than replacing a power steering pump, so you know these guys aren't trying to rip you off at least.
