Just Bought used 2012,Turbo Manual transmission, can't get in gear, Reverse 1 and 2nd gears,

Asked by SanfordPy Jun 26, 2016 at 11:31 AM about the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo with Sunroof and Sound

Question type: General

Had no problem or clue of transmission difficulties at dealership. Went home
on a 50 mile drive to my destination. Later, when starting vehicle in driveway,
slight slope, and put in reverse, shifter would not go into gear, ( yes i pushed
down on the shifter while pushing in the clutch to get into gear but absolutely
would not go in. I tried different depths of pushing the clutch, barely halfway
and fully to the floor. It was as if the clutch would not engage into the gears. so
i coasted out of the driveway, then tried to get the car into first and second,
absolutely would not go in. I waited in a non busy cul de sac, remained calm
and after minutes of gently trying it finally went into gear and i drove to a safe
area, parked it and called a tow truck to get it to a dealership.
What should I expect to hear from the dealership as a fix for this? (Of course
this all happened on a Saturday afternoon and nobody can look at it till
Monday. Any area of this problem I should look for as a heads up? Should I
expect a new transmission, or is this an easy fix, have you heard of this
before?

sounds like a bad clutch assembly or low fluid level. Usually if it simply does not go into gear but does eventually does not point out a major issue that is unless this is a brand new car which its not. I would have them take the car back and find another cause i would simply not take the risk of keeping it cause if its anything like what i got stuck in 1 year later yours could end up like my 2012 jetta $10,000 warranty repairs and replacements and it still doesn't run correctly....
