I don't have the power liftgate and I wonder if there is a way to open the tailgate from inside the vehicle

Without the power tailgate no there is not a way to open it from inside. The remote keyfob might have a rear hatch release button if it doesn't have remote start.

There is an access panel on the inside of the rear hatch, about 5" X 4", remove that and there is a lever inside about an inch and below the opening, it moves to the right to release the catch

2017 Edge lift gate button is located at the bottom right hand side of the light control cluster. has a symbol that looks like the lift gate. The is on the left hand side of the steering wheel.

The Ford engineers and designers must have gone mad! It is very asinine to build a 2017 Ford Edge SEL, that is practically fully loaded with almost every feature, and not have a latch release or button to press for the liftgate. Way to go Ford! They are idiots to have done this!

There is not a manual release for a 2015 edge. I took the back panel off from the inside and I see nothing.

So, this has been an issue on these models for years now? I thought it was special to the SE model. They must have a reason why they did this, but they haven't made t clear to me. There is no button on my remote control or on the switch panel for the lights. Why? Is it possible to upgrade it to include even the most basic push-button release?

My 2021 Ford Escape with heated seats, among other great additions has absolutely ZERO way to open the liftgate without getting out of the vehicle and opening it. With all the pandemic changes and curb side pick up, how could they have possibly missed putting an inside release? I have remote start, heated mirrors, and a myriad of other things less useful. I can't imagine the engineers and designers sitting around thinking it would be a good thing to NOT have.
