do keys have batteries

Question type: General

Do the keys have batteries?  One key doesn't work unless I'm right close to the car and
even then, have to try several times.

Yes, they have batteries to operate door functions.

The key fob has a battery. The key itself does not. Transponder (aka "chipped") keys receive electromagentic energy from the induction coil in a car's ignition to power the chip to emit the proper encoded signal back to the car's immobilizer. The fob, however, has a battery in it to power the remote for locking/unlocking doors, trunk, etc. It takes a typical watch battery, you'll have to open yours to see which type.

the remote (to lock and unlock) is part of the key so I don't think that's the same as fob?? All the buttons (lock, unlock, alarm, hatch opener) all all in the top part of the key.

Your local ford dealer or autoparts place should have the batteries in stock.

The three or four button remote key uses a CR2032 battery, available at auto parts stores, drug stores, mall kiosks, and some grocery stores.
