2002 Dodge Durango SLT. PCM issues

Asked by Jason Apr 03, 2022 at 08:04 PM about the 2002 Dodge Durango SLT Plus 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've read through so many results on this already but my
question is. 2002 dodge Durango SLT.  Original code on
pcm was reading. NOBUS.  Car would only turn over but not
start. I replaced it with a used one.  This one starts but
does after 3 or 4 seconds.  Showing code P1685. Security
key not registering.  But no other codes. So I gather it needs
flashed at the dealership for $240. For kicks I put the
original back in but it's still saying NOBUS.  So for the
original one, it still could be just one of the sensors
possibly?  Correct?  Or am I just way off all around?  Off
work and finances are really tight, so trying to get this POC
running as cheap as possible.

That old some independent shops may have a dealer quality scanner that do the flash procedure. Call around some local shops to find out.

Yes, it needs to be programmed to the vehicle using your VIN so the security system can recognize the keys and allow the vehicle to continue to run. I agree, an independent shop should be able to handle the flash, possibly better than the Dealer, because of the age of the vehicle. Hope that helps! Jim
