Dodge durango 2002 high rpm in idle

I have an 02 durango slt 4.7 liter v8 with
220k miles on it. It has been well serviced up
until last sept. by previous owners. Recently
after i bought it whenever its in idle it will rev
up to about 1500 rpms and drop to 500
several times in a row off and on. When your
driving it also feels like it revs high in lower
gears as it builds speed. Ive heard that it
could be an o2 sensor or a bad tps sensor. If
you have past experiance with this issue
please let me know so i dont waste money
on the wrong issue. Thank you
