Whenever we turn the steering wheel right, there is a groaning/rubbing sound???

Asked by principessa Nov 19, 2014 at 11:25 AM about the 2004 Ford Focus ZX5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We recently replaced the front calipers and rotors because of another "noise" from the front passenger wheel area.  One month later, this rubbing sound could be heard and felt whenever the steering wheel was turned to the right.  This is especially noticeable when the car is cold.  The engine does not vibrate excessively when started nor does it jostle when going over bumps, etc.

We were told it's the motor mount but the symptoms I've read thus far do not match.

Check your power steering fluid level. It sounds like it's low on fluid, if it is then you need to fill it then look for the leak. If it's full but foamy either the power steering pump or power steering rack are is/bad. It's not a motor mount.
