Belt has to much slack

Asked by Devin Oct 06, 2018 at 09:20 AM about the 2012 Ford F-150 XL 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On my 5.0 there is two belts. I took
both off to change them out, they
were both snug when I released the
tension to take them off. When I went
to put them back on re inside A/C
belt can wrap around all pulleys
without even using the tensioner...
yes it's the right belt. The outside belt
fits right, you have to actually use the
tensioner to put it back on... any help
would be appreciated

You have the belt routing wrong, ther should be a diagram on the engine sticker under the hood if it's missing you can find it on the net. I just googled it and they've got good diagrams. It's easy to get confused when doing this, I hope this helps you take care

Remove the new belt, size it up with the old belt. The old belt may be stretched slightly from wear. If the new belt is the same size or a fraction smaller, routing is the problem.
