Starting problems ~ Please help

Today i bought a ford focus manual from dealership 2004, i paid 4000 inc of taxes, engine seems very noisy but after reading lots of reviews, it seems that this is common, but this is day 1 and i have starting problems and not sure why, i am finding if i press clutch, 8/10 the car will start, i am a woman driver that finishes work late at night and am very worried . The car is less than 1 day old . My question is, do i have to press cluctch for this to start or should it start without pressing clutch. Am very worried, i bought this car with no warranty. :o(

sorry meant to say ford focus car not manual, its 1.15 am so am a bit tired. Terrified i bought a lemon, also does anybody know my rights, should the dealership put this right for me if there is a prob, i bought the car with no warranty.

yes you do need to press the clutch tom start the car it is a safety feature to ensure the car doesnt take off when syarted in gear. When it doesnt start what happns does it crank and turn over but just not start or does nothing happen at all?

Thank you Dan for your answer, i did call a local garage today and they confirmed EXACTLY what you have said, the clutch needs to be pressed in order for the car to start, i have been driving 22 years in the UK, with manual transmission, and NEVER do we need to press the clutch to start the car, the cars over there always start with the ignition, so for me this is something totally new as this is my first car in Ontario, so it is a huge relief for me to know that there is no starting problems, i feel dumb now but i didnt know. The engine is a bit noisy, and needs what i would describe as extra power otherwise it will stall, but the dealer has assured me there are no engine problems and it has had a tune up, plugs etc . But in answer to your question, when i start the car, it is a bit loud, it turns over and then all is well. Sorry i am not mechanical minded, wish i knew the right words mechanically to write. Thank you Dan :o)

i had a similar problem with mine when i started the car it felt like it needed more power i put a new coil pack on it and i have never had a problem since.
