TOYOTA RAV4 2012 - BACK DOOR LOCK IS STUCK AND WON'T OPEN

Asked by Cindyf64 Sep 06, 2019 at 05:20 PM about the 2012 Toyota RAV4 Base 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2012 Toyota Rav4 with a swing open back hatch door.  No matter
whether I use the key fob or the manual door lock/unlock button, it will not
unlock.  I climbed in the back to see if there is a way to manually unlock it to no
avail.  Can anybody help with suggestions?

This happened to me with my 2015 Rav4. Turns out there is a button inside the glove box on the left hand side that disables the back hatch. Mine got pushed accidently when I took the car in to get detailed.

I don't have a hatch, it swings open like a regular door, but I looked in my glove box anyway. I was hopeful, but no lock release. I appreciate your response!

I called Toyota and spoke to a mechanic on the phone and he told me that it sounded like a door lock actuator. He even said if I had a local mechanic friend that could help me that would probably be the part that it needed. He told me if I brought it in to Toyota it would probably cost me $350 to $500

That's exactly what we were looking at just yesterday and wondered if that's what it was that needed to be replaced. Thank you for this!

Be prepared to spend about $1,000+. I spent hours in these forums until I took it to the dealer. Why? moat of us know why our doors are not working, we just play dumb. In my case, the car wash guys were forcing the trunk down manuallu at tines, and even after I told them, they kept on doing it. Futher causing my door to damage. So here is the cost..ready? Each shock for the trunk = $450 (estimate) x2 = $900. Labor = $150 (estimate) NOTE: Don't be cheap thinking you can replace them. These things got codes needed to replace them. So pay your nice $1,000 an Merry Xmass. That was my Holiday present!
