We had that problem on our 02. I got the door open from the inside, which took putting my shoulder into it. One of the prongs on the door frame in the electronic latch was bent . I broke it off. Now it opens and shuts electrically and manually, though sometimes only from the dashboard electrically, and not the key fob, and does not open from the door handle, sometimes. Your door may have not been staying shut because of a bad contact at one of the prongs on the electric latch.
